Case Study: Overcoming Barriers to System Expansion
The Challenge
The customer had a factory network based upon the Novell NDS Directory, and the server was running Novell Netware. The server was unmaintainable, with a failed drive in a RAID array. Consequently they were unable to expand their system.
Our Solution
We installed a new Windows 2003 Active Directory domain, with a pair of domain controllers. One of these servers also acted as a file and print server.
We migrated all the user accounts, user profiles, workstations, printers and data to the new system on a department by department basis over a period of a few days, whilst ensuring that all departments were able to continue uninterrupted working.
We established a new structure for the data storage, and ensured that user permissions were migrated as well as the data.
We installed a new automated tape backup system for the new file server.
